The Board Coach: There is no more important challenge for Lutheran Outdoor Ministries in today’s increasingly complex and rapidly changing world than to train and empower leaders. LOM has a good system in place for staff training and leadership development. To train and strengthen camp boards “The Board Coach” has developed a seven-part video leadership series for boards and offers four services through in-person workshops and remote sessions:

  1. Board Leadership Development
  2. Board President & Committee Chair Training
  3. Strategic Visioning & Planning
  4. Executive Director Transitions

It is very important to invest in and equip your board to lead your camp ministry into a more vibrant future. To explore whether “The Board Coach” can be of assistance, a three-way Zoom conversation with the executive director and board president is suggested. Leading for Racial Equity, LLC works with faith-based and other not-for-profit organizations to deepen understanding of systemic racism and equip the organization to analyze its structures and policies to lead for racial equity. Dr. Joyce Caldwell and Rev. Marilyn Miller have 30 years of partnership and experience in facilitating dialogue, leading workshops and training sessions, and working with organizations to examine and address their journey toward greater racial equity.

Comments:

  • This is the most intense, cohesive, and clear of anti-racist classes, books, movies I have experienced—with an emphasis on experience and deep-diving mentally and emotionally.
  • I’ve done other trainings in a variety of settings and was very appreciative of the approach that was taken with the retreat. While acknowledging many things it wasn’t a “blame game” and I don’t mean for that to be good for my feelings but more of an encouragement to sit with uncomfortable and then try to move forward. I feel that at other trainings (unrelated to this one) there was an emphasis on blame and it was not productive nor helpful.
