Order LOM Curriculum

If you have a young child going to camp and an older child going on a trip, they might just talk about the same things in Bible study! An annual summer camp curriculum is developed around a specific theme. Outdoor ministries from across the country use the curriculum for the basis of their program throughout the summer. The materials in the entire curriculum include theme-related Bible studies, worship resources, and supplementary activities (challenge course and environmental activities, crafts and games), for preschool (some curricula), elementary, junior and senior high, and adult. Graphics are also included.  Other smaller bundles are also available and listed below.  Curriculum packages will be delivered electronically via e-mail.  Please note: there are no returns on downloadable curriculum.

What are people saying about LOM Curriculum?

  • We are non-denominational and this is the best year of curriculum I can remember in my six years of camp ministry. Great work.
  • (We) Always purchase from LOM. We trust the curriculum to be theologically sound and love the resources that are provided.
  • I find it very comforting to know that there is an ELCA theology based curriculum we can always use.

Created to Be

Theme Verse: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”  —Psalm 139:14

We are loved and accepted by God even before we enter this world. The fact that God knows our innermost selves is mind-boggling at the very least. Even when we feel alone and unseen, God sees us and knows us, never leaving our side. Maybe even more brain-bending is that we need not do anything or prove one single thing to receive God’s free gift of grace.

Each of our five sessions gives us an opportunity to explore more deeply the authentic selves God has created us to be. We will learn what it means to be siblings in Christ—humans who are brave enough to encourage and stand up for each other, sharing burdens as well as joys. We grow and learn more about ourselves while listening to and sharing with each other.

Daily themes include: Created to be Free, Created to be Authentic, Created to be Brave, Created to be Disciples, Created to be Disrupted.

Holy Trinity Wholly Love

Theme Verse:  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” — Revelation 22:13

Wading into the mystery of the Holy Trinity can be a daunting endeavor. But that is precisely what we are going to do this summer. We enter together into the

wonder and truth of the Trinity to know God more fully and know ourselves more wholly. So, how do we even begin? Where do we start our journey into our understanding of the Trinity?

We begin with the end: the book of Revelation, where God declares, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” With Revelation 22:13 as our guiding text, this curriculum explores the Holy Trinity through the whole scope of God’s love expressed from start to finish. The totality of love in and through the Holy Trinity is beyond any mathematical equation. This summer we set our calculators aside and explore the mystery of God through the formula of love—a love freely gifted to all of us!

Daily themes include: Who is God the creator?  Who is Jesus? Who is the Holy Spirit?  Who am I? Who are We?

Boundless:  God Beyond Measure

Theme verse: I pray that you and all of God’s people will understand what is called wide or long or high or deep. I want you to know all about Christ’s love, although it is too wonderful to be measured. Then your lives will be filled with all that God is.  —Ephesians 3:18-19 (CEV)

With this curriculum, Boundless: God beyond Measure, campers and their leaders will enter the hopeful and saving story of God and God’s people. They will experience the good news of God’s boundless creating, loving, and merciful power for them in their lives. Just as God was loving and faithful at the time of creation, then in the life of Israel, then through Jesus Christ, so God continues to be in this world now. Enter the story of God and God’s people (you!) and rediscover boundless goodness, love, welcome, forgiveness, and generosity. So boundless that they cannot be measured. But they can be trusted.

Our boundless God is our anchor in life and our springboard too. God made us and will never let us go. Yet God also propels us out into God’s beautiful world to care for and prosper creation, gifting us with abilities and creativity to do “far more than we dare ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:21 CEV).

Daily themes include:

  • Goodness Beyond Measure (Day 1) God the Creator brings forth, out of darkness and chaos, a good and interconnected creation.
  • Love Beyond Measure (Day 2) In boundless love, God sent Christ to heal our broken world and renew all creation.
  • Welcome Beyond Measure (Day 3) In God’s household all are welcomed and joined together through Christ.
  • Forgiveness Beyond Measure (Day 4) God’s mercy for the lost is extravagant. God is not about fairness but all about grace.
  • Generosity Beyond Measure (Day 5) God generously fills our lives “with all that God is,” producing an abundant harvest.

From Generation to Generation

Theme verse: For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:5)

With this curriculum, From Generation to Generation, campers and their leaders will explore the stories of familiar Bible characters and their responses to God’s call and promised faithfulness in the midst of life’s unpredictability and challenges. The promises of God, first made to Abraham and Sarah, include a place to live, a purpose to live out, and a posterity to carry on God’s promises to all future generations.  Freed from fear, we step out, trusting that missteps will not destroy us, that God’s guidance will take us where God has called us to go, creating relationships based on care and compassion. From Generation to Generation focuses on how the enduring love instilled in the promise to Abraham and Sarah continue through Old Testament characters, to Jesus, to the early church, and on to YOU! God’s love endures forever – From Generation to GenerationCLICK HERE FOR A SAMPLE PACKET

Daily themes include:

  • Abraham and Sarah (Day 1 focus) were called to step out in faith with a destination unknown, but a promise to assure them of God’s grace and blessing.
  •  Joseph (Day 2 focus) stepped beyond anger to embrace God’s gifts and use them to bless more people than expected. His story emphasizes that what others might mean for harm, God can use to bring promised blessing.
  •  David’s story (Day 3 focus) reminds us that God has a propensity for choosing the least expected person to do the most difficult job. God does not call the qualified, but instead qualifies the called. Each one of us can be God’s agent of blessing.
  • In that same manner, the story of Mary the mother of Jesus (Day 4 focus) shows us that God goes beyond cultural conventions and our understanding to keep the promises made to Abraham and Sarah and their offspring. Mary’s courageous trust is an example of a life narrative to follow.
  •  The stories of Paul, Timothy, and Lydia (Day 5 focus) extend the promises beyond the descendants of Abraham and Sarah to all the world, including us. We are invited to experience God’s promised blessing, love, and grace and also to share it with those in our world today.

Transformed Community

Theme Verse:  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Romans 12:2

God’s Agent of C.H.A.N.G.E. conjures up images of a mighty band of superheroes with secret missions. When we take on the mission of being God’s agent of change in the world, we must be ready to be transformed—individually and together—and to discover that our not-so-secret identities will probably not conform to the world’s expectations. This is not always an easy thing to say yes to, but when the mission is attempted together and in community, we discover that we are aligned with God’s will, powered by God’s spirit, and that there is purpose and joy in being Christ’s life-giving and love-giving presence in the world as God’s hands and feet.

Day themes include:  Generosity Transforms Community (Acts 2:41-47, the early Christian community); Compassion Transforms Community (Luke 14:7-14, the parable of the wedding banquet); Inclusion Transforms Community (Luke 10:25-37, the parable of the good Samaritan); Justice Transforms Community (Matthew 20:1-16, the parable of the laborers in the vineyard); and Forgiveness Transforms Community (Mark 2:1-12, Jesus heals the paralyzed man).

This Changes Everything

Theme Verse:  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. –Ephesians 2:8

As people, we are born into a broken world.  God’s desire for wholeness and life for us and the rest of creation was made known to us in the life and death of Jesus.  This action by God through Christ literally changes everything – the world, us and how we live in community with one another.  Through this curriculum, campers will learn how God’s grace changes these things and how we can work with others to show that grace to the world.  This curriculum has the same title as the theme for the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering.  It has been written in collaboration with the gathering team.  The lessons are not the same but compliment those that will be used for the gathering.  The daily themes include Our Hearts (Luke 24:13–35, the walk to Emmaus), Our Identity (Acts 9:1–18, the conversion of Saul), Our Purpose (Matthew 25:31–46, the parable of the king, the sheep, and the goats), Our Community (Matthew 15:21–28, the Canaanite woman), and Our Perspective (Luke 15:11–32, the parable of the prodigal father and the wayward son).

The Water of Life

Theme Verse:  “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”  –Isaiah 43:2

Water is something that we come in contact with every day, and yet we often take it for granted.  We all need water to live our physical life and through this theme campers will discover that water is also the source of Christian spiritual life.  All campers, whether they are experiencing Vacation Bible school for the first time or they are on a week long backpacking adventure, will dive into Bible stories that shower them with a new awareness of how water and life are gifts from God.  New items for this curriculum include theme related clip art for each day (use these as accents for your materials) and full color Bible story art for each day!  Pages can be printed out or shown on a tablet for Bible study or projected on a screen for worship.  Each graphic is also available in a black and white version that can be printed and used as coloring sheets for young campers.

The Jesus Way

Theme Verse: “Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us.” –Ephesians 5:1-2

We are called to follow Jesus and live like him – which is not always easy.  We must be active disciples, watching Jesus, listening, learning, and of course, doing.  Jesus tells us that we must take up our cross and be followers of him through love and service.  Through the daily themes, campers will learn to trust in God’s promise as we feed, forgive, love, serve and pray… The Jesus Way.  To download a sample, click here.

A Love That Never Ends

Theme Verse:  “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.”  –Deuteronomy 6:5

Loving God and loving others sounds simple, but living it out gets more complicated.   People of faith have often been called to do difficult things—to pack up and go when called, to speak difficult truths in challenging situations, to believe in God’s promises, and to love even our enemies.  Campers will learn about their calling to love God and others from people of the Old Testament who struggled to do the same.  The daily themes include God’s covenant with Abraham, Water in the Wilderness, Ruth & Naomi, Jonah & God and Jeremiah’s Call.

Living in God’s Time

Theme verse: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” –Ecclesiastes 3:1

At camp, time is holy – time set apart to live in intentional Christian community. Each day is structured around worship, Bible study, prayer, singing, having fun and sharing meals. This structure is in contrast to our everyday life, and gives campers the opportunity to refocus and participate in this expression of God’s kingdom. Just as time at camp may be marked differently – you may know that it is breakfast time when you hear the camp bell ring, for example – time is marked differently for Christians. In Jesus, we see God living among us and we learn of a different way of marking time as we learn about the story of Jesus through the church year. Living in God’s Time is not a way to escape time, but a way to live more fully and enter into it with the love of Christ. Each day at camp, we will focus on a different season of the church year, and explore that holy time, even in the midst of today’s culture.  The daily themes include Living in Advent (John The Baptist), Living in Christmas (the birth of Jesus), Living in Lent (The crucifixion of Jesus), Living in Easter (The resurrection of Jesus), Living in Pentecost (The Holy Spirit).

Multi-Site Discount: If you are an organization with more than one site, you must purchase the entire curriculum or the curriculum development bundle for each site. Pay full price for your first site and get a discount on your other sites.

Curriculum Development Bundle:  Includes “How to Use This Resource” including Organizing your program, “Living in God’s Time” Week-at-a-Glance, Making use of this curriculum, Nonviolence in the camp community, Back Home Activities, and clip art examples; Introduction to the theme; and Biblical Interpretation.

Faith Alive

Theme Verse: Let all that you do be done in love.  –1 Corinthians 16:14

“Faith Alive!” focuses on five traditional spiritual practices of the Christian tradition—Bible (study), worship, prayer, hospitality, and service—as entrées into the way of Jesus lived in the lives of his followers. These spiritual practices are also traditional components of a camper’s experience in an outdoor ministry setting – either at camp or in a church day camp setting.  A word about faith practices is in order. First, they are what they say they are, that is, practices. This implies that to be effective, they must be practiced—daily, consistently, purposefully. As with any practice, one goes through periods of boredom or a lack of initiative in the spiritual practices. This is normal. But if the practices are going to become a regular part of one’s routine and yield the fruit of renewal, it is important to keep at them even through the dry times. Second, a practice may be new to you and thus not second nature. At first, you may feel awkward engaging in the practice. This also is normal. But soon, as you participate daily, the practice will become second nature and a part of who you are. Soon you may find you feel empty when you miss your practice even one day. Finally, many of the spiritual practices are interrelated, that is, as you engage in one practice, you find yourself also engaging in another almost as a matter of course. That is certainly true in this study. It is simply impossible to engage in Bible study without a prayerful outlook and attitude. One cannot engage in service without studying what the tradition says about hospitality, and so forth. As stated above, one practice may well lead to another, which leads to another, which leads to another. Perhaps this is one reason faith practices hold out the promise of spiritual renewal.

Spiritlife

Theme Verse: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.” –Ephesians 4:4-6

The Spirit was present at creation. Jesus promised the gift of the Holy Spirit to be with his followers after his death. The Holy Spirit, he said, would remind them of who he was and would continue to teach them and guide them. After he died and was raised from death, Jesus came to the disciples, who were in fear behind locked doors. In that room where he found them, Jesus breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). As in the beginning God when created and enlivened the first human being by speaking and breathing, so by his breath and words, Jesus gave new life to a humanity recreated in his resurrection. Day by day the Holy Spirit continues with us. Our life is in the Spirit—it is Spiritlife.

Jesus Chooses Us

Theme Verse:  You did not choose me but I chose you.  –John 15:16

Everyone wants to belong to a community, to be surrounded in daily life by others who offer encouragement, guidance and support. In our world, we find that sense of community in our neighborhood or school, in our circle of close friends, in sports teams and work colleagues and in our families. This sense of belonging to a community is also part of the experience of encountering Jesus.  In the Bible Jesus calls people one by one to come follow him, but Jesus also weaves those followers together into a community of those who know and love Jesus. We might think of this as the original social network. Jesus is the originator of the group; we are those who join his cause.  Yet, in the Gospel of John, Jesus surprises even his closest followers or disciples by announcing that he considers them to be his “friends” (John 15:14-15). He might have called his followers any number of things—disciples, servants, even “fans.” Instead, Jesus introduces an intriguing way of thinking about the life of faith as belonging to a community of friends.

Keeping the Earth

Theme Verse: “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God.” –Romans 8:19

Even in the midst of sometimes huge environmental challenges in our world, we can begin to view “creation’s eager longing” as a gracious invitation from our God. And we know that when God calls, God also supplies what we need, to fulfill that call. We are being invited to know ourselves more deeply, as God’s children. We are being invited to more truly understand our place in God’s world. We are being invited to go forth more hopeful, and inspired, to look for ways to “green” our homes and our congregations and more faithfully care for creation.
